As you will soon discover, handmade soap making requires a scale with a minimum precision of 0.1 g.

We recommend being over 16 years old to take this course, or being accompanied by an adult, due to the handling of caustic soda.

Materials

For our handmade soap making workshop, you will need a few instruments and, of course, ingredients and safety equipment. In addition to a notebook, a pen, and access to a stove and a sink, make sure you have these tools on hand, which must be strictly reserved for soap making (a matter of safety):

• plastic pitcher
• digital scale (minimum precision of 0.1 g)
• 2 digital thermometers (one reserved for lye use, the other for fats)
• stainless steel pot (3 or 5 liter capacity)
• immersion blender
• 2 stainless steel mixing bowls
• 2 silicone spatulas
• spoons
• fork
• large knife / soap cutter
• 2-liter cardboard milk/juice container as a mold

It's easy to equip yourself with used kitchen equipment! No need for new or high-end items.

Workshop recipe – ingredients

To make our workshop recipe, you will need to get:

• 1 container of coconut oil
• olive oil (pomace type)
• 1 container ofsunflower oil (ideally high oleic) (we recommend getting the 473 ml one)
• 1 container of shea butter (ideally raw)
• 1 container of castor oil
• 2 x 15 ml bottles of our orange-fir essential oil blend or 2 x 15 ml bottles of essential oils of your choice (optional)
• 1 bag ofPrairie Rose Clay or of your choice (optional)
• 1 container of sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, i.e. sodium hydroxide, found in hardware stores)

Warning!

Soap making involves handling raw materials that can be volatile, irritating, and dangerous upon skin contact. So, no messing around.

Before embarking on this adventure, it is imperative to have access to an adequate environment (no children or animals present, good ventilation) for a minimum of 90 to 120 minutes. You should never make soap on the go or if you feel distracted.

How long do I have access to my course?

I bought an online course as a gift. How do I transfer it?

You just need to access your account here. Then click on your name and modify your details to those of the person who will receive the gift.
